2018 Advent Study: Learning to Walk in the Dark
In many ways, Advent is about learning how to be faithful in times of darkness and difficulty. For us in the northern hemisphere, the days of Advent are among the darkest each year.
“I have learned things in the dark that I could never have learned in the light, things that
have saved my life over and over again, so there is really only one logical conclusion. I
need darkness as much as I need light.”
–Barbara Brown Taylor, in Learning To Walk in the Dark
I hope you consider joining this year’s Advent Study on Taylor’s book. It’s an easy read. In my own spiritual journey, it has been one of the biggest influences.
We gather three times, on Wednesdays at 7pm starting a week from today, December 5. Please read through Chapter 3 before the first meeting. It’s not too late to join if you plan on purchasing or borrowing your own book. There are kindle versions available online, and there also several copies available through the SWAN libraries. Even if you can’t make the study, I encourage you to pick up a copy.
I look forward to walking this Advent journey together.
