What if a woman doesn’t become a mother

yashggorani December 3rd

What if a woman doesn’t become a mother…

There can be several reasons :-

✔️ Fertility issues

✔️ Other priorities in life

✔️ No desire to be a biological mother

👉🏿 How do we behave towards such women?

🚩 We make them feel unfulfilled without a child, unworthy or less than and guilty.

I believe that every woman is born with motherly love ; it’s deep-rooted in every single woman.

Whether a woman wants to experience motherhood through her own child or through other ways must be HER CHOICE.

If she isn’t a biological mother, she can :

💫 Adopt a child

💫 Own a pet

💫 Nourish a plant

💫 Be a Therapist or a Doctor and give a new birth to her client / patient OR

💫 Embrace her own unique ways of embracing motherhood (as she wants & when she wants)

PS : Can we create a society where we stop pressurising women to have a child?

Thoughtful of you to create this space for discussion.

There really are multiple reasons why someone wouldn't want to become a mother or a parent, and their decision should be respected without shaming them or guilt tripping them for having an opinion and choice!

I agree that as a society we could be more open to the variety of life, instead of believing in "one model fits all" thinking of the past.

However, I believe some people are too much prioritising developing their careers (that finally quite often prove to be just "soap bubbles"), convenience and having a good fun, regretting it when they are getting older. But also there are some empty-nesters, who spent most of their life in a family and may feel lost now.

I think it is a matter of choices, and being aware of the advantages and disadvantages of different styles of living.

What is worrying me is the invasion of various pills: "happiness pills", the "love" pills, or testosterone pills with other pills, which are to wipe out the negative side effects and bring the libido back. I think they all have some devastating effect on humanity.

@yashggorani Agree. I prefer being a cat mom.

I don't believe every woman has a maternal instinct or desire. There are so may people with children that have no business being around them, belittling them, yelling, abusing them, so many different things and situations.

With or without women are.pushed so much and even constrained to be stuck in that way of life even if that isn't what they want. Thankfully I haven't had that experience in my life.

I've never wanted children even at a young age, the thought of something growing inside of me makes me ill and no amount of you'll feel differently when your older will change that, 31 and still feel the same. After roe v wade was overturned I thankfully had an obgyn that didn't want more than my feelings and wants on the matter and got my tubal ligation done. My family has never pushed it, the only person I've had hound me about it was an exs mother and I shut that down extremely quick.

I know I'd be a good mom, i helped raise my nephew some when I was younger but it's not something I want, I can barely take care of myself and be there for myself much less a whole other tiny person and I wouldn't want to bring a kid into this horrible world that we live in.

I don't think a nurturing nature is the same thing as a motherly love. I would do anything to protect my partner, my friends, my family, and my animals but I have no desire to be a mother or birth a child.

Exactly. People should be allowed to make safe choices for themselves.

How are females pressured to have kids?

Yes it’s being more publicised that the birth rate at current levels is a trajectory towards extinction. That’s pressure of sorts.

This really throws me because you are asking to stop females being encouraged to do what’s natural and continues a human race.

@LabeledBPD

like do we want to prohibit pressuring people starting to walk, talk or bond with people? It’s all natural and kinda expectation that benefits yourself and society to a degree.

if we don’t encourage (not pressure) people to have kids, why should we encourage (again never pressure) people to walk when a toddler?  I guess knowing theses pressures will be very valuable because encouragement is very different.
