I am a female from England, although I was not born in this country. I have a experience with eating disorders, self harm, OCD and traumatic experiences. I also like to speak to people who have experienced a significant loss or are dealing with feelings of isolation, particularly if this is an ongoing issue. I am a Christian, and came to my faith at the age of 18. I try to treat everyone as individual and do not pass judgement. ...See more Hey everyone!  I am very concerned about the member and guest chat-rooms. This post is intended to apply to all chat rooms but in reality I know some are more problematic than others. I do not want this to come solely from the perspective of an occasional moderator so please feel free to share your view. These are my main concerns though.  Having large group of people who are feeling emotionally vulnerable can have a negative effect on individuals.  For example people can feel that their problem is 'minor' in compared to someone else's and feel guilty or unable to reach out to listeners. Self destructive actions can also be intensified with secret desires to compete and to some extent spending too long around others who also struggle creates a false sense of normality and increases social isolation as members retreat into a digital world and are in the rooms all day

...See more While I believe 7cups is ultimately about being safe to express your emotions and some of you do that through your usernames, we need to be respectful of others too because they are freely visible in the community. I think that usernames which are inflammatory should be censored. @Laura @GlenM @Heather but in the mean time I think that having this in the open would I hope increase your willingness to accommodate others. I will give some examples  1. Political censoring  'Ihatethewest789'  2. Religious censoring  'Sataniscoming666' 3. Trigger censoring  'Suicideismyreality' 4. Sexual censoring  (Well you can imagine)  I have actually seen many many names which are very similar to these so please let's all be respectful of each other and let our actions online mirror those online.

...See more I know that when we first come onto this site there are a few testimonials, which are great to have but a little general. Members and guests stories are private and I respect that. However I think many people would like to share what the site has helped them with and from just the members I have spoken to and accounts I have read about in the forums there are some amazing stories. I think that maybe we could have a story of the week, about one member or listener on site and how their life has been positively impacted by the site and then have them on our dashboards and potentially share them in our outreach efforts. Privacy would be respected because it would be the member of listeners choice to submit the story/account , and usernames would not  be used. We just hear so much negativity sometimes about things that the site could improve upon it would be nice to have balance. I think too that it would give people a better idea of the nature of the issues we support people with and could be motivating. I think it would need to be heavily moderated though and the "my listener stopped me from killing myself" or "my listener is my best friend ever/ I want to marry them"  or even " my members taught me how lucky I am I don't have an awful life" type of thing banned. @Laura @Cadence @Roadie

...See more As a listener I have been privileged to be able to speak to many members and guests who have allowed me to hear about their lives and one area that often crops up is the struggle either they themselves or a loved one faces with mental illness. This alone would be challenging enough, but often I see how this affects their relationships, I am thinking more of romantic relationships really, but it does apply across all relationships. So how do you as a partner best support a  loved one with a mental illness while taking care of your own needs, and how as a sufferer do you make your partner aware of your limitations and how has your illness affected your romantic relationships - both success stories and those where progress is yet to be made are welcome.
