Ideas for the perfect Holiday gift for the ADHD’ers in your life, or yourself ;)

...See more In keeping up with the holidays, I thought to give you guys some ideas on what sort of presents are well suited for us neuro divergent folks. Pomodoro timer cube for productivity (just don’t lose it, ok?). Weighted or soft blankets for cozy comfort (anxiety's greatest foe). Green or matcha tea for energy (contains L-Theanine, keep charged but calm, sounds like an oxymoron but hey its true nonetheless). Psst..I drink a lot of this stuff. Smart water bottle (one that has a timer to remind you to drink or is self cleaning, or both!) Noise cancelling headphones for focus and productivity (say sayonara to unwarranted distractions) Key finder tiles for organization (now where did I put my phone, keys, wallet.) Instant pot or crock pot for easy meal prep (shut the lid and let the magic happen). Fidget toys or rings (because multi tasking is going to happen. It just is). A gift that relates to their most current hyper focus (Oh the possibilities are endless here).
Pomodoro for Productivity (say that five times fast)

...See more Yo! I can't believe I haven't done a post on the Pomodoro technique yet. 🍅😜 This is one of the go-to methods for increasing your productivity. Take a look at this infographic below. The basic idea is easy enough to understand. Now, when it comes to practically applying the technique, here is what I will do. I get my dopamine in first by doing something I like for about a half hour, then I start on my workload for the day using the Pomodoro technique. I find this works well for me. Has anyone else tried this? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments.

Exercise tips and hacks

...See more Here are some ideas on how to get an exercise plan working for you, as movement has been shown to have a positive effect on dopamine levels, and improve our executive functioning. Many will admit that regular exercise is an essential tool in their ADHD management. A good approach to maintaining an exercise program and stick with it is to switch your activities up. Having ADHD we tend to get bored easily and our brains are always on the lookout for what’s novel. So in that case, I think it is also important to really enjoy your activity of choice. If you don’t like biking, try swimming. If baseball isn’t really doing it for you, then switch it up for basketball. You get the idea. Keep trying things until you find a handful of activities that you can cycle through. I recently heard in a podcast how effective running is for many of us, we tend to feel the effects of a runner's high even more so than neurotypicals do. You can call a friend, or use a personal trainer which gets you using the buddy system to help keep you motivated and accountable. Alternatively, some people have found a lot of success in joining team sports, so if you are curious, join that soccer or baseball team! Over a period of time, you will have formed a habit and a healthy one which will bring you nothing but benefits for days, weeks, months and years to come. Feel free to share in the comments what has worked for you in maintaining your exercise program.
Struggling with feelings of inadequacy and lack of accomplishment

...See more Are we too hard on ourselves? I have a feeling as ADHD’ers we tend to be our own worst critics a lot of the time. Did you have a period of remorse after being self or professionally diagnosed, where you felt bad about all the time you lost? Where you could have been productive and working towards something in your life, but instead you had years, decades even, of distractions, impulsivity and scattered thinking? These thoughts have crossed my mind more than a few times since I discovered this year that I most likely have inattentive type ADHD. I guess feeling some sadness around what could have been is natural and perhaps even a grieving process needs to take place to come to terms with these realizations. I recently watched a video that said that having undiagnosed ADHD equates to losing thirteen years of your life in which you could have been productive. That statement made me really depressed. Thirteen years? Maybe part of me doesn’t want to believe that is true or maybe its that life is not so cut and dry. Does anyone else feel what I am saying, and have any insights they would like to share?

...See more It is that time of year… It’s Thanksgiving!.. Or more accurately, Cupsgiving, here on 7 cups!  The holidays can be times of great joy, spent with the ones we love creating memories that last a lifetime. It can also unearth thoughts and feelings associated with memories we would much rather forget. Whatever you find yourself relating to, one or the other, or a mixture of the two, know that it is all valid. The power of having a daily gratitude practice has been proven to impact your mental health in a positive way acting as a protective tool to overcome anxiety, depression and addiction challenges. Taken from mentalhealth.org: Research has shown that consciously practicing gratitude can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. In fact, studies have found that a single act of thoughtful gratitude produces an immediate 10% increase in happiness and a 35% reduction in depressive symptoms. These effects disappear within three to six months, which prove the benefits of practicing gratitude. Amazing, right?! So to celebrate Cupsgiving, I thought it would be nice to make our own virtual gratitude jar here in our subcommunity. Feel free to answer the prompts provided in the graphic below or go freestyle and create your own. This post can be a reminder for yourself to practice gratitude and act as inspiration for your fellow cupper’s in times when they may need a boost of gratitude to help them through their day.
